Predicting Potato Size Distribution.

POTATO prices are commonly determined based on size distribution of the tubers. Typically, tuber size distributions have been quantified and described categorically and the response to treatments measured. The goal of this project was to use predications of averge tuber size and distributions around the average to predict the influence of tuber set on potato quality. Tuber size was predicted as a function of tuber density. The distribution of tuber size was predicted with a 2 parameter model. These models were combined to estimate the influence of tuber set on tuber size distribution. Furthemore, the influence of seed source and mother tuber size on tuber set was measured. Model data was used to optimize the mother tuber size distribution of seed potatoes to optimize potato productivity and value.
